Does Your Garage Door Need to be Replaced?

Because most homes have a garage that is attached to the house and faces the street, it may be a good idea to replace the garage door for both aesthetic and functional reasons.

Functional Replacement

A functional replacement could be needed if the garage door has a manual pull up style that was popular some years ago. Changing the door to an automatic opening and closing mechanism with a control takes away the heavy lifting for the homeowner and may prevent injury since these doors are generally made from wood and can be very heavy.
Aesthetic Replacement

An aesthetic replacement will add a garage door that compliments the style and design of your home. An attractive door can come in many styles and colors resulting in added value to the residence. Designs of doors now include windows as well as an array of materials. These materials include aluminum, steel, wood and types of fiberglass. Insulation is also a favorable feature of the new types of doors.
Roller Doors

There are several types of garage doors that are most popular in the market. The roller doors roll up and down by wrapping around a drum. These are ideal for houses that have a space problem in the garage and a short, narrow driveway. The roller door is generally made of steel or aluminum. It provides good security protection and is excellent for draft protection. A car can be parked near the door since opening it will not affect the car.
Sectional Garage Door

The sectional garage door is made of multiple sections and lifts up on rollers within a frame. It runs parallel to the ceiling of the garage and stays within a frame. The section garage door can be made from steel, wood, GRP (glass reinforced polyester) or ABS (impact resistant thermoplastic). It provides good security and is excellent for draft protection. Likewise, a car can be parked near the outside of the door without any problems.
The Up and Over

The up and over garage door swings out then moves up aligning with the ceiling. It needs to have a long driveway to operate properly. This garage door can be made from steel, wood, GRP (glass reinforced polyester) or ABS (impact resistant thermoplastic). It provides fair security and is rated poor for draft proof. Parking close to the door on the outside may be problematic.

All of the aforementioned garage door types can be fitted with an automatic opener. There are numerous types and costs available but all of them need to have periodic maintenance.
